THANK YOU... to those who have paid their band fees!  For those of you who haven't paid them, please take this as a friendly reminder to do so immediately!  We are rapidly approaching the expensive part of our band season where we must pay for our additional uniforms, staff, music, drill, and the required musical equipment and instruments for this fall.

Clarinet Lessons
We are adding a private teacher to our staff for the 2010-2011 school year. Mrs. Linda Tessereau will be available to teach private lessons during 1, 2, 6, and 7 (and possible 5th) on certain days of the week. If you sign up, you can be pulled out of band as you have seen trumpet students of Dawn Weber. The cost of lessons will be a reasonable $15.00 per half hour. You can prepare for solo and ensemble contest, IMEA auditions or just improve your skills.  Take advantage of this opportunity. Mrs. Tessereau has played clarinet for approximately 28 years and currently is a member of the Air National Guard Band of the Central States. She has also been a teacher of band for 11 years and is currently at Wolf Branch Middle School. If you are interested in taking lessons, please fill out the form below and press submit. Lessons are available on clarinet and saxophone.

We are living in frightening times. Times when we may not have the priveleges that we once had. The state of Illinois owes most of our schools a lot of money. Money that should have been paid months ago. Alternative means of coming up with that money are in the works, but programs and jobs are being eliminated left and right. How does this hit home? Many teachers jobs are being cut. That means that class sizes will be increasing and that is just the core classes. At Wolf Branch, on Monday evening March 23, the board had no choice but to issue dismissal slips to all non tenured teaching staff. Included in this is band and music.  How can you help? Send a friendly letter or make a friendly phone call to your Illinois State senator and representative. The phone number and address are listed below. The more people we have in support of this, the better the chance is for us to possibly get results.

The Lancer Band Program is Outback Bowl bound once again! A preliminary cost of the trip is being calculated as we speak and we should hear something the week of December 7th. The last trip to the Outback Bowl was approximately $775 per student. Don't worry! There will be some fundraising opportunities. If you start planning now, the trip should not be too painful for you! Dates for the trip will be roughly December 27 - January 2. The Marching Lancers will perform the field show, parade, concert band (all 4 bands) and jazz band (all three bands) festivals. All band members (including students involved in fall athletics) are welcome to come!

Those of you who attended the Liberty Bowl trip... Don't worry. I vowed to not have a trip like that and I will keep that vow! We have tentatively secured the Sheraton Suites Hotel which is right across the street from the rehearsal/ performance areas. Since I have personally stayed there, I can vouch that the hotel is very good.

Help us raise money for:

The Jacob Kellogg Commission Project!

We would like to honor the memory of Jacob Kellogg by commissioning a major work for concert band by a major composer. Our new goal is $7,000. We are proud to say that we have already raised approximately $6,210 in an effort to honor Jacob's life. Our composer of choice is Dr. Andrew Boysen, Jr.

If you wish to help us in our efforts, you can mail a check to:

Belleville East High School

Please make your checks out to BEBOP. The Belleville East Band and Orchestra Parents along with the band directors are handling the organization of this project.

On behalf of my wife Lori, my son Greg and myself, we would like to thank all the parents, students and staff that have supported us for the past seven years.  I have decided to leave the Belleville East Marching Lancers.  Over the past seven years I have met some incredibly caring, understanding and passionate people.  The students have truly been a blessing to work with.  I've been fortunate enough to watch many of them come in as awkward freshman and leave as award winning musicians.  As I think back, it isn't possible to name one year as my favorite year as they all had some incredible highs in them.

Mr. Tessereau, you have been a huge inspiration to me, and I know that all I have learned from you I will apply in the future.  Thank you for the incredible opportunity to work with such an incredible program.  The growth of the program is because of the tireless work that you have put in to make Belleville East what it is today.  I will treasure our friendship forever.

For now, I am taking some time off to spend more time with my wife and son.  Many of you have met them and I don't want to miss another moment with Greg at this stage of his life.  Don't worry, you'll still see me from time to time and you better believe that we'll attend some shows and will be there cheering for all of you each and every chance that we get.

If you'd like I can always be reached at bill_castillo@sbcglobal.net.

Until we meet again...
EYES...WITH PRIDE!!!

Sincerely,
Bill Castillo
