Concert Jazz Orchestra - Concert Jazz Orchestra (CJO) is the premiere jazz ensemble of three at Belleville East High School. CJO performs at countless civic functions and jazz festivals in both Illinois and Missouri. The Concert Jazz Orchestra has had the privilege to open for Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau twice and has performed with trumpeter Pat Harbison, trombonist Bill Watrous, pianist Reggie Thomas and trombonist/ composer Brett Stamps. In the past the CJO has won grand champion in the 2002 Peach Bowl Festival. Recently the band won grand champion honors at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, FL. Concert Jazz Orchestra placed 2nd at the Eastern Illinois University Jazz Festival and 1st at the St. Charles West Jazz Festival. In addition to jazz festivals, CJO performs across the community for civic functions and events. Concert Jazz Orchestra just made its second appearance at the Illinois Music Education Assocition All State Conference in 2018. The first appearance was in 2009.
The Belleville East Jazz Ensemble is our 2nd jazz band in the curriculum at Belleville East High School They are under the direction of Mr. Timothy Hassall work to develop fundamental skills. The Jazz Ensemble gets opportunities to perform in public as well as gives three formal concerts per year.
The Belleville East Jazz Band is the third jazz band in our curricular studies at Belleville East High School. This ensemble focuses on fundamentals and introducing jazz to students from across the band program. The Jazz Band also attends festivals when they can and they give 3 formal concerts a year.
